National Student Exchange

Accolades

The UNI National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Chapter earned National Gold Status. NSSLHA is the national organization for graduate and undergraduate students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication.

Rebecca Gronewold, a senior, received the Excellence of Scholarship Award from the National Council for Geographic Education. Award recipients will be honored during a ceremony held at the 2014 National Conference on Geography Education presented by the National Council for Geographic Education.

Three UNI graduating students have received the Lux Service Award for their exemplary service to the university: Daye Pope, a political communication major from Clear Lake; Kayla McCormick, an exercise science and sports psychology major from Caledonia, Minn.; and Ramya Varadaraju, a computer science major from India.  

Electronic media student Isaac Campbell won five Awards of Achievement at the 23rd Iowa Motion Picture Awards for his documentary "Aspire," (co-directed with electronic media graduate Glenna Goldman) and for "Ghosts," "Bravi", "Such Men Lived" and "Colts Recruitment." The Iowa Motion Picture Awards recognize outstanding creative and technical achievement in Iowa's moving image production industry in a statewide competition held annually.

Electronic media graduate Cassandra Milbrandt's documentary film "Nolan" received the Award of Excellence in the Student Production category in the 23rd Iowa Motion Picture Awards 2014. The Iowa Motion Picture Awards recognize outstanding creative and technical achievement in Iowa's moving image production industry, in all its forms. The Award of Excellence is its highest  award. "Nolan" tells the story of Milbrandt's brother Nolan, who is autistic.

The UNI American Marketing Association completed the Blue Zones Project™ Organization Checklist. The pledge actions they completed include offering healthy food options at meetings, , hosting well-being and educational events, promoting volunteer opportunities and helping members find their purpose through workshops and career-oriented goals.

Leadership for Diversity-Inclusion NCBI Workshop

Gain new insights on community building in a positive, interactive approach from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9. Prexy's in Maucker Union is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Aug. 4-15. Chats and Essentials will reopen for fall semester Monday, Aug. 18.

Wireless network access for UNI guests and visitors

UNI is offering complimentary wifi access to visitors and guests via the 'attwifi' network, which will replace 'UNI-Guest' in most campus locations. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to continue using the secure 'WiFi-UNI' network. More information is posted on the ITS website.

A number of abandoned bikes around campus were confiscated by the UNI Police on May 27 and 28. If your bike is missing, contact the UNI Police at 273-2712.

UNI Homecoming Parade entries wanted!

One of UNI's most treasured Homecoming traditions, the Homecoming Parade, is back - with a twist! The parade is Sept. 20 and will feature golf cart and other small vehicle 'floats.' Golf carts will be provided free of charge for student groups to decorate. Student groups can fill out the parade entry form online. For questions, contact Connie Hansen

Every UNI building has areas designated as "Severe Weather Shelters." Locations of emergency shelter areas for each academic building are posted online. Make sure you know where the designated areas are in your building.
