Accolades

Molly Rome, a UNI senior majoring in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)/Spanish, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to Argentina for an English Teaching Assistantship.

The UNI National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Chapter earned National Gold Status. NSSLHA is the national organization for graduate and undergraduate students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication.

Rebecca Gronewold, a senior, received the Excellence of Scholarship Award from the National Council for Geographic Education. Award recipients will be honored during a ceremony held at the 2014 National Conference on Geography Education presented by the National Council for Geographic Education.

Three UNI graduating students have received the Lux Service Award for their exemplary service to the university: Daye Pope, a political communication major from Clear Lake; Kayla McCormick, an exercise science and sports psychology major from Caledonia, Minn.; and Ramya Varadaraju, a computer science major from India.

UNI Student Disability Services will show the film "Including Samuel" at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 30, in the Oak Room, MAU. A discussion on inclusion and aiding individuals with disabilities in an educational setting will follow.

Farewell reception for Mike Licari

A reception honoring interim provost Mike Licari will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, in the Georgian Lounge & Porch. A program will start at 4:30 p.m. Licari is leaving UNI to start his new position as provost at Indiana State University. Help celebrate all that Mike has done for the university as a faculty member and administrator.

Film screening and discussion: 'The Mask You Live In'

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, there will be a screening and discussion of the documentary "The Mask You Live In" at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 27, in 115 SRL. This documentary follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of masculinity. Sign up for Beethoven 5K

Cedar Valley Music Promotion Organization (CVMPO) is a collaboration of music organizations that helps spread the joy of music to young players. CVMPO will host the Beethoven 5K run/walk at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 2. Bruce Hornsby at Gallagher Bluedorn this Friday

Grammy-winning musician and famed stylist Bruce Hornsby will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at the Gallagher Bluedorn. Hornsby's songs, "The Way It Is," which was later sampled by rapper Tupac Shakur, and "Every Little Kiss" became instant classics. Get your tickets online

Fall course: Acting for Life

The course Acting for Life uses acting tools to enrich the student's personal and professional life. Students will explore relaxation and concentration techniques and develop methods to increase self-awareness and empathy. THEATRE 1059 will be offered 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday/Thursday.

Singers workshop for 'Rent'

Do you sing Hip Hop? Gospel? Show tunes? Country? Rock? In preparation for the fall theater production of "Rent," there will be a chance to learn some of the music at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 19 and 26, in the SWT. The workshop will show how your voice sounds, your sense of rhythm and how you communicate with another performer while singing. Reading music is not required.
