National Student Exchange

Accolades

Molly Rome, a UNI senior majoring in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)/Spanish, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to Argentina for an English Teaching Assistantship.

The UNI National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Chapter earned National Gold Status. NSSLHA is the national organization for graduate and undergraduate students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication.

Rebecca Gronewold, a senior, received the Excellence of Scholarship Award from the National Council for Geographic Education. Award recipients will be honored during a ceremony held at the 2014 National Conference on Geography Education presented by the National Council for Geographic Education.

Three UNI graduating students have received the Lux Service Award for their exemplary service to the university: Daye Pope, a political communication major from Clear Lake; Kayla McCormick, an exercise science and sports psychology major from Caledonia, Minn.; and Ramya Varadaraju, a computer science major from India.

UNI DM dancer appreciation week

This week is dancer appreciation week for UNI Dance Marathon. Beck's Karaoke Benefit Night is from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Beck's on the Hill. The cover charge is $5, 18+. A Black Tie Affair is from 9 p.m. to midnight, Thursday, Jan. 29, at Threehouse Wesley Foundation. Cost is $5 per person or $7 for couples. A dance benefit featuring nine dance teams from across Iowa will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, at the GBPAC. UNI students get in free.

CROW (Current Research on Women & Gender) Forum

The next CROW Forum will be at noon, Monday, Feb. 2, in 109A CME. Lisa Jepsen, economics, will present "Women and Law School" discussing the factors that influence success in the first year of law school with a special emphasis on race and gender. Jepsen will also provide aggregate statistics about UNI students who take the LSAT and apply to law school.

Live Like a Student Seminar

Live Like a Student is a free, non-credit three-week course offered at a variety of times, Feb. 9 through Feb. 26, in 324 LIB. Students will explore the concepts of budgeting, financial aid, credit/credit cards and identity protection. The course includes a free T-shirt and the chance to win a $500 scholarship.
