Community College Advisers

Thank you for helping your students learn more about the University of Northern Iowa!  Each year more than 35 percent of our students have transferred from another college or university. Your knowledge, encouragement and support have helped them be successful at UNI and beyond.

Since you’ve been so good to your students and to us, let us return the favor with these easy-to-use tools:

Transfer Plan-It

Transfer Plan-It is UNI’s online tool that helps you and your students determine which course requirements may have been satisfied at an Iowa community college.

Plan of Study

Requirements for every major, minor and certificate program are on our Plan of Study website. You’ll also find handy links to UNI course descriptions, department phone numbers and websites.

Transfer Tips

When working with student considering transferring to UNI, please encourage them to:

  • Complete their transfer credit process by submitting all necessary forms to the Office of Admissions. If they receive an Associates of Arts (A.A.) degree, transcripts should indicate this. High school transcript should also be included if students have earned fewer than 24 transferrable college credits.

  •  Set up an appointment to meet with their academic adviser as soon as they arrive on campus. Advisers can help students get connected and confirm they are on the right path for graduation.

  • Get involved on campus – join a club or organization, participate in intramurals, meet new people and attend athletic events.

  • Explore the countless opportunities to study abroad or participate in National Student Exchange.

Equivalency Sheets

Review our equivalency sheet for your Iowa community college to check course transferability.

AP Credit

UNI credit is typically granted for students who earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP exam. Students must arrange for the testing service to send an official score report to the Admissions Office. A total of 32 credit hours can be earned toward an undergraduate degree through credit by examination.
