Center for Teaching & Learning Mathematics
The Center for Teaching and Learning Mathematics (CTLM) at the University of Northern Iowa is committed to improving mathematics education and seeks to assist teachers, students and parents in making sense of mathematics. Six full-time faculty and staff and approximately 20 part-time faculty and staff conduct the activities of the CTLM.
Currently the center is involved in three major projects:
- Producing video and supplementary resources for military families and their children in the areas of mathematics and literacy as a partner of the Student Online Achievement Resources (SOAR). This project is funded by the Department of Defense.
- Writing mathematics professional development courses for elementary teachers that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards Initiative and other Iowa initiatives including Every Student Counts and the Iowa Professional Development Model. The University of Northern Iowa funds this project.
- Facilitating these courses as professional development workshops for elementary teachers. This project is funded by a Mathematics and Science Partnership grant.
