UNI Tallgrass Prairie Center Partners with Monarch Joint Venture
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI’s Tallgrass Prairie Center is an official partner with the Monarch Joint Venture. The partnership was made possible after the Tallgrass Prairie Center (TPC) received a grant.
The TPC promotes and enhances native plants throughout Iowa, including milkweed. Milkweed is the only place a monarch can lay its eggs, and the caterpillars only eat milkweed. Monarch butterflies are experiencing a number of threats to their migration and are declining in numbers.
The Monarch Joint Venture strives to protect the monarchs and their migration. Together, the two programs will propose monarch conservation projects and work to seek additional grant funding for partnership projects.
