Curriculum & Instruction

We prepare caring and effective professional educators for diverse settings by linking theory, scholarship and democratic practices. Feedback from program graduates, as well as those who hire them, indicates UNI teaching majors are world-class educators.

Welcome from Jill Uhlenberg, Department Head

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is the home of elementary education, early childhood education and middle level education majors, and literacy education and instructional technology minors or endorsements. The department also offers endorsements in education of the gifted and school library studies for practicing teachers, master’s degrees in all divisions and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program.
The department serves approximately 1,400 undergraduate majors and nearly 150 graduate students. Faculty design and deliver courses that prepare our undergraduates to become some of the best teachers in the field, with multiple field experiences and challenging opportunities for hands-on practice with teaching methods in real classrooms. What’s more, our graduate programs help prepare master teachers and leaders in the field of education through both theory and practice.
I invite you to explore the various divisions and opportunities within the department that can help prepare you for exciting positions in a variety of areas. For more information, please call 319-273-2167 or use the Contact link at the bottom of this page.
