Department of Teaching Faculty Collaborate to Offer Leader in Me Workshops

September 3, 2013

A collaboration between Department of Teaching faculty, Hawkeye Community College, PreK-12 school partners and The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber’s Leader Valley has resulted in accessible workshops and graduate courses on The Leader in Me for area teachers, preservice teachers, and other interested educators.

The Leader in Me is a national school transformation model based on Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The program is sponsored by the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance, which covers much of the cost for adopting the program in all public and private PreK-12 schools in the Cedar Valley.

In an effort to help preservice teachers better understand the program they see modeled in partner schools and to help inservice teacher to access reduced-cost graduate coursework on the program, UNI’s Dr. Jody Stone and Dr. Teri Lasswell teamed with Catherine Freeman from Hawkeye Community College and administrators in schools that were early-adopters of the Leader in Me to offer a spring workshop to 75 educators in spring 2013 and a summer workshop to an additional 60 educators.
