POSITION:  A tenure track, nine-month appointment with possibility for summer teaching is available starting August 2013.

RANK/SALARY:  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Benefits include TIAA-CREF and IPERS retirement plans, group life insurance, disability, medical, and dental insurance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Earned doctorate in educational leadership or related field; recent experience as superintendent of schools/central office administrator/intermediate chief executive officer; evidence of providing leadership and professional development for teachers that supports student achievement; evidence of commitment to mentoring future educational leaders; evidence of successful PK-12 experience; and strong school finance background required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate-level teaching experience in the educational leadership field; public policy experience related to education; school leadership experience with urban and/or diverse populations; experience and comfort with multiple roles of distance instruction; and evidence of and potential for scholarly activity and leadership service to schools preferred.  Seek candidates with experience in urban and/or diverse settings who will promote equity, social justice, diversity and a global perspective and embed these concepts in our leadership programs.  Candidates with a research interest and expertise in multicultural education, social justice and culturally responsive pedagogy would add rich perspectives and learning to the current program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Responsibilities will include teaching educational leadership courses in principalship and superintendency programs; supervising student internships; service on doctoral dissertation committees; collaboration on program curricula development; and scholarship that benefits students, educators, and school systems.  Educational Leadership faculty advise approximately 25-30 students; direct student research papers/dissertations; conduct conferences, workshops, and seminars; work collaboratively within a program unit; and are professionally involved at the university, local, state, regional, and national levels.

DEPARTMENT:  The department offers both a Master’s degree in principalship and an Advanced Studies Certificate for principal licensure in Iowa.  In addition, the program offers an Advanced Studies Certificate for superintendent licensure in Iowa as well as an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.
