To be notified about new Iowa Education of the Gifted Teaching Endorsement cohort offerings, please complete the online interest form to the right and we will contact you as information becomes available. The next cohort is scheduled to begin Fall 2013.
Enroll in the Fall 2013 course
To enroll in the fall cohort, you must have an Iowa teaching certificate, the basic required technology skills, a desire to learn more about and support preK-12 gifted education and the ability to think complexly and creatively.
ELEMECML 6254 The Gifted and Talented (3 units)
Educational needs of gifted and talented children and youth. Emphasis on characteristics, identification/assessment, special populations, counseling, parenting and program intervention.

We encourage you to enroll as soon as possible. The Office of Continuing and Distance Education will send you course details and textbook information approximately one month before the courses begin.

Add the endorsement to your teaching license
After you have successfully completed the required endorsement courses, you may add the endorsement to your Iowa teaching license. Obtain the Application to Add an Endorsement from the Board of Educational Examiners. Print the application, complete Section I, attach the required fee (made payable to the Board of Educational Examiners) and mail the form and fee to:

Upon receipt of your application, the Record Analyst will complete the institutional section and forward the form and fee to the Board of Educational Examiners in Des Moines for processing. The Board of Educational Examiners will send the updated license directly to you at the address listed on your application.
