College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

School of Applied Human Sciences

Why UNI?

UNI offers the only undergraduate Gerontology degree in Iowa. In our program, you will not be lost in the shuffle. You will receive individualized advising, and our faculty will know you personally. Most classes in the major and minor have fewer than 45 students. Undergraduate students have opportunities to participate in student organizations, volunteer in the community, attend conferences, and participate in research with faculty.

Our graduates have pursued careers as nursing home administrators, volunteer coordinators, case managers, resident advocates, retirement community managers, senior fitness directors, long term care admissions coordinators, adult daycare managers, Senior Corps coordinators, nursing home social service coordinators, dietetics managers, and activity directors. Graduates have attended graduate school in areas such as Gerontology, Human Development & Family Studies, Mental Health Counseling, Business Administration, Psychology, and Social Work.

The Gerontology major and minor continue to grow as the demand for professional in aging-related fields increases!

We look forward to helping you meet your goals!
