Hagemann Hall Wondering Women get answers, new experiences

Hagemann Hall Wondering Women is a series of programs organized by staff to elevate the social and academic success of second-year women living in Hagemann Hall.

The October program featured the super power of talking to professors. A newsletter and fliers set the stage for the experience of hosting professors from several UNI colleges. More than 25 students met with professors for dinner at the Piazza Dining Center in Redeker Center.  Wondering Women were prepared with good questions so they conversation was robust!

According to Ashley Hartnett, the Residence Life Coordinator in Hagemann Hall, Wondering Women provides and interesting way for second year students to build their confidence and communication skills. In addition to the super power of talking to professors, these topics are included in the series of program themes: Studying abroad, service learning, stress management, time management, job preparation, academic planning and life skills.

Tips for the super power of talking to professors included:

  • Call them by the correct title
  • Tell the truth
  • Be prepared to do the work
  • Be clear and concise
  • Pay social calls
  • Be professional in emails
  • Do not, under any circumstances, flirt
  • Be an advocate for yourself
