Evie Charles Pugh, better known as 'Chuck' to most UNI music majors, is a native of Alabama. Born and raised in the small country town of Grove Hill, he has always had a love for music and entertainment. Chuck started working for UNI in the fall of 1988, not however, in the music tech field, but in the building service department. Since that time, Chuck received his Bachelor of Arts in 1997 and Masters of Arts in 2000 from UNI.
A musician himself, Chuck plays bass guitar and is director of the men's chorus at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. In addition, he's the bass player and lead vocal for UNI's finest R&B band the "PAC-A-TECHS". He also plays contemporary gospel music for the adult and teen choirs. Chuck has performed with professional gospel quartet groups all over the United States including: The late Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes of Tyler Texas; The Blind Boys of Alabama; The Spiritual Meadowlark Singers of Iowa featuring the electrifying lead singer Pastor Clifford C. Wright of Des Moines, IA, with hit song "Call on Jesus"; The Soul Survivals of Waterloo, IA; The Mighty Clouds of Joy of Los Angeles, CA; and The Incredible Soulstirres of Chicago, IL, who had the late great Sam Cook as a group member during the mid 50's and early 60's.
In the spring of 1980, Chuck sang vocal background and composed bass lyrics for the hit songs from the Jericho record label entitled, "I Am Coming Home Just To Be With You," and "Hold On To Jesus' Hand." Both songs were written by the great Pastor Nathaniel Johnson of Clinton, IA.
With Chuck's degree in Educational Technology, he is right at home as Technical Director/Performance Facilities Manager for the School of Music. He also enjoys working with the performing arts stage setup in the Great Hall and the School of Music setup in Davis, Jebe, Graham, and Bengtson Auditorium. Chuck attended the 2003 USITT Stage Expo Conference in Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Pugh resides in Waterloo with his wife Willie Mae. He has four daughters: Kisha, Evia, Renee, and Taneka, and four grandchildren.
