Welcome to UNI!

Prospective Band Students:

We are all very excited about the possibility of having you participate in the band program at UNI! I hope that you will consider joining the UNI Panther Marching Band and/or one of our Pep Bands or Concert Bands. I am typically away from the office during late May and the month of June, so I might not be able to respond to emails until after July 1. In the meantime, I have tried to provide answers to the most common questions about our band program below. I hope the information below will help you as you prepare to participate in our bands at UNI. If you still have questions, I would be more than happy to contact you as soon as I return to the office in July. I look forward to having you as a member of our band program.

Have a great summer and I look forward to meeting you in August!

Sincerely,

Dr. Daniel Galyen
Director of Marching and Symphonic Bands

After you complete the registration form, you will receive in the mail additional information regarding our pre-season band camp.

Joining the Panther Marching Band is a great way to begin your college career. From personal experience, I can tell you that marching band at the college level is a unique and exciting experience that you will not want to miss. I am extremely excited about the upcoming 2013 season! Some of the best arrangers in the country have written music for our shows. We have a great home football schedule, a fantastic group of students returning to the band, and some exciting halftime shows in the works.

Since 1976 the Panther Marching Band has performed in the UNI-Dome, and almost all of our rehearsals and performances are scheduled for the Dome for the 2013 season! That means no sunburn, rain, cold, or snow! The 72-degree Dome is an excellent facility to perform in, and the audience is very supportive of the Panther Band!

Students who participate in the band received academic credit, which can be a boost to your grade point average. You may register for Marching Band (530:018) before or after your arrival in the fall.

I hope that you will join us for an exciting year of music and marching (and football)! We need you!! New students are an essential part of our program. If you decide to join us, I believe you will be joining a band that is “second to none” in the state of Iowa and throughout the nation. I hope you will be part of our accomplishments this fall!

Additional information about the Panther Marching Band is located on our website: http://www.uni.edu/music/marchingband/index.html

2. UNI Pep Bands:

The UNI School of Music boasts two exciting Pep Bands that perform at home basketball games from November through March.
