CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) will hold a food waste reduction workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center. The workshop, focusing on methods to reduce food waste and divert it from the landfill, includes presentations and discussions from regional experts such as Jen Jordan, recycling coordinator at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, and Alicia Presto, Area 4 representative from the Iowa Waste Exchange.

Attendees will also hear from IWRC specialists as well as a panel of representatives from area organizations and businesses who will identify the challenges to food waste reduction and diversion. The workshop will conclude with a tour of the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center.

The IWRC has been providing environmental services, including business assistance, industry training and research and development, for more than 25 years. IWRC is a nonprofit organization, part of Business and Community Services at the University of Northern Iowa.

The workshop is being held as part of the Iowa Food Waste Reduction Project, which is funded through a Solid Waste Alternative Program grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
