CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Registration is now open for the management workshop "Purposeful Management — Applying the 80/20 Principle" hosted by the University of Northern Iowa Executive Development Center. The workshop is 8:30 a.m. to noon, May 4, in the Business and Community Services Building on the UNI campus. The registration deadline is April 27.
"Beware the busy manager," said Kim Recker, program manager for the UNI Executive Development Center. "Being busy is not the same as being productive. Surprisingly 80 percent of the work that gets done is accomplished by 20 percent of the employees. Or think of it this way: 80 percent of the value you bring to the business is derived from 20 percent of the work activities you accomplish."
In this hands-on workshop, instructor Amy Campbell will help participants identify the work tasks that add the most value to their businesses and their jobs and determine the work activities that are not adding value so these tasks can be minimized or eliminated.
The cost is $125 per person. UNI Alumni Association members receive a 10-percent discount. Businesses can purchase a consortium membership for $1,999, which entitles the business to 10 seats to any of the 2012 management training workshops. Half-day workshops count as a half seat. After the 10 seats are used, additional seats can be purchased at a discounted rate of $175 per seat.

The Executive Development Center is a program of Business and Community Services, a division of the UNI College of Business Administration.
