CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Sturgis Youth Theatre will present "The Glass Slipper: The Story of Cinderella," July 17 through 20 at the Strayer-Wood Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus. Evening performances are at 7 p.m., July 17, 18 and 19. Matinee performances are at 10:30 a.m., July 18 and at 2 p.m., July 19 and 20.
Directed by Gretta Berghammer, UNI professor of theatre and artistic director of the Sturgis Youth Theatre, "The Glass Slipper," by Vera Morris, is the company's 15th annual all-youth summer show. The production is the classic story of a young girl, her hopes and dreams, and the Fairy Godmother who helps her believe in herself to make them all come true.
"The Glass Slipper" features a cast of 42 young people from the Cedar Valley, ranging in age from 8 to 15 years old. Another 18 university and high school students serve as staff, interns and volunteers on the production. Working alongside Berghammer are scenic designer Mark Parrott, UNI associate professor of theatre; Jascenna Haislet, costume designer; and lighting designer Shaun Knapp, a recent UNI graduate.
The Sturgis Youth Theatre offers a variety of workshops, classes and productions throughout the year, open to all young people who wish to participate.
