UNI CEEE to present ecological lawn and garden fair as part of Yards for Kids program

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa's Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) will present the Ecological Lawn and Garden Fair on April 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the CEEE on UNI's campus. Homeowners will learn practical and cost effective methods of managing and beautifying lawns and gardens without the use of conventional chemical pesticides.

The fair will feature exhibits, educational resources, and workshops featuring business leaders and UNI and Iowa State University faculty. Workshops will include: 'Pesticides and the precautionary principle,' at 9:30 a.m., 'Take your lawn to school,' and 'Indoor pest control,' at 11 a.m., 'Backyard composting,' and 'Iowa prairie plants for your yard,' at 1:00 p.m., and 'Yards for kids: Parents should become involved,' at 2:30 p.m.
