CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Children's Choir (UNICC), under the direction of Michelle Swanson, will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, May 4, in Bengtson Auditorium, in Russell Hall, on UNI's campus.  The concert is free and open to the public.

UNICC will perform a variety of songs at the spring concert.  It will feature Broadway hits, spirituals, poetry set to music, folk songs and a campfire tune. A three-part a capella version of  "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was arranged by Swanson for the concert, and will be accompanied by string bass and timbano.

Additional leadership for UNICC comes from the UNI music education students who volunteer with the ensemble. "I can't begin to describe how much I've learned from working with UNICC while in college," said Jordan Leckband, a UNI junior majoring in music education. "I'm so much better prepared for my own teaching in the future."

UNICC is one of the programs in the Community Music School at the UNI School of Music.  For more information and booking requests, contact Swanson at michelle.swanson@uni.edu or 319-273-2600, or Community Music School director Cindi Mason at cynthia.mason@uni.edu or 319-273-2024.
