CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa conducted its annual emergency exercise on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The exercise consisted of a tabletop scenario of a natural disaster on campus. Participants in the exercise included university administrators, public safety personnel and local first responders. The exercise also included setting up the university's emergency call center.
The purpose of the exercise was to review, assess and evaluate the university's emergency plans and capabilities. As part of the exercise, the university's evacuation procedures, including the option of shelter in place in some incidents, were reviewed. UNI also conducts a test of its emergency text messaging system (UNI Alert) semiannually.
