CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art will present its Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Kamerick Art Building from March 26 through April 20. The competition showcases outstanding recent works by undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Art.
More than 400 pieces of art work in various media are submitted annually; however, only 100 works will be chosen for display by juror Susan Messer. A professor of drawing and printmaking at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Messer will give a lecture at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 13, in the Kamerick Art Building (KAB) Art Auditorium, Room 111. Messer's recent accomplishments include a solo exhibition at Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China, and an assignment as panel chair at the College Art Association conference in New York City.
The awards ceremony for the student exhibition will take place at 7 p.m., March 26, in the KAB Art Auditorium, Room 111, and an opening reception will follow. Last year, awards totaling nearly $4,500 were made to students.
All activities at the UNI Gallery of Art are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday; and, noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. The gallery is located at the corner of Hudson Road and West 27th Street, on the main floor of the Kamerick Art Building.
