CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Study Abroad Center's Capstone in Southern Italy has been awarded the top short-term study aboard program in Abroad101's rankings presented by STA Travel. The rankings honor the highest-rated study abroad programs and locations by American students who have studied abroad, with evaluations completed through both quantitative and qualitative responses.

Abroad101 is the world's first, largest and fastest growing study abroad review website. STA Travel is the youth travel expert enabling students and young adults to explore the world by creating experiences filled with adventure, discovery and personal growth. "I am honored; it is a tremendous privilege to have opportunities that allow me to share my geoarchaeology research and passion for exploring with UNI students," said Chad Heinzel, associate professor of earth science who led the capstone program in Southern Italy.

UNI's Study Abroad Center provides an opportunity for students to study in more than 60 countries. More than 600 students are involved in the study abroad program, with nearly 400 taking part in short-term trips. Earlier this year, Abroad101 ranked the the UNI center fourth in the nation for quality of its academic programs.
