UNI Suzuki School announces orchestra auditions

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The UNI Suzuki School has announced auditions for both youth and junior orchestras for 2014-15.

Auditions for the Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra will be held on Friday, Aug. 29. This orchestra is for area string students in grades 9 through 12. This year's Youth Orchestra conductor is John Chiles. Rehearsals will be on Friday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m., and four concerts will be held during the school year.

Auditions for the Northern Iowa Junior Orchestra will be held on Friday, Sept. 19. This orchestra is for area string students in grades 6 through 8. Students who are at least 10 years old may also audition. The conductor for the group is Tom Schilke. Rehearsals will be on Friday evenings (once a month in the fall and every Friday starting in January) from 5 to 7 p.m., with a concert on Sunday, April 19 and a tour beginning Wednesday, April 15.

School orchestra membership is required for membership in either of the orchestras.
