CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Textiles and Apparel Program (TAPP) will hold its 20th annual fashion show, "Catwalk to the Big Top," at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 21, in Lang Hall Auditorium on the UNI campus.
This special anniversary show will not only showcase the work of students currently enrolled in the program, but also feature apparel produced by TAPP alumni working across the country and abroad for well known fashion labels and industry leaders. Alumni have been invited back for this anniversary event, and will be honored both on stage and at a reception immediately follow the show in the Sabin Hall.
All students who were enrolled in classes this academic year in TAPP were encouraged to design and construct original garments for the show. All entered pieces had to be produced in the past two years and were juried by Stephanie Fett and Holly Humke, both TAPP alumni currently working for Powers Manufacturing in Waterloo, Iowa. Designs were chosen for the runway show that demonstrated creativity, appropriate and well-executed construction techniques, trend sensitivity and strong visual messages.
The show is based around a modern circus theme. It will close with a finale featuring apparel designs that TAPP alumni have brought back showcasing the companies where they are currently employed. TAPP alumni will be available at the reception to talk with students or community members interested in pursuing a career in the fashion industry.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Annette Lynch, professor in the School of Applied Human Sciences, at 319-273-3054 or email@example.com.
