CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa will host this year's annual Military and Veteran State Conference from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, at Maucker Union on the UNI campus. A military employment fair will run concurrently from 1 to 4 p.m.
This year's conference, titled "Uncamouflaging Campus Diversity: Creating Transparency Through Cultural Competence," aims to educate colleges, universities and Iowans about military culture and the diversity military members bring to campuses and communities.
The keynote presentation will be given by University of Maryland professor of sociology Meredith Kleykamp. Her studies focus on military culture and the soldier's transition back into civilian life.
Additional breakout sessions will be held throughout the day to discuss the aspect of military and family culture, how colleges and universities can be prepared to help military members succeed, and give tools to help overcome the challenges of transitioning back into civilian life.
