Women's Music Festival' to be held by UNI Campanile Wednesday, April 17

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- A 'Women's Music Festival' to promote awareness about the issue of sexual assault, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, on the plaza by the University of Northern Iowa's Campanile, weather permitting. The rain location is in the Maucker Union Hemisphere Lounge.

The UNI Gender Equality Association (GEA) and Family Service League's (FSL) Crisis Services Program are sponsoring the event that will feature performers Karla Ruth, Emily, Colleen Jameson, Terry Pearson Stevens, Holly Hathaway, the West African Dance Ensemble and the Capoeira (Brazilian dance) group.

In addition to the performances, those attending will be able to view the 'Silent Witness' display a traveling memorial honoring Iowa women and children who were killed in acts of domestic violence, and visit vendors with materials focusing on violence prevention and women's issues.

The event is being held in conjunction with the 'Take Back the Night Rally 2002' that is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, on top of Maucker Union. It also is part of UNI's annual 'Arts in April' celebration.
