First, the university is evaluating the budget process used to develop the institutional budget. Anticipated outcomes will include enhanced documentation of the budget process as well as enhancing baseline financial reports for use by various entities. Input on these measures will be solicited from faculty and staff.
Secondly, the UNI community will have a unique opportunity tonight to take an unbiased and up-close look at UNI's finances. The Northern Iowa Student Government will host State Auditor David Vaudt at 6 p.m., in the Maucker Union University Room. Auditor Vaudt is well known for his plain-spoken, objective and unvarnished insights into state budgets. His presentation will include how to read and understand a university budget.
This background will be very helpful as we address issues such as the impact of tuition set-aside on our ability to strategically provide financial aid to students. Tuition set-aside will be discussed at the Board of Regents meeting this week. See http://www.regents.iowa.gov/Meetings/DocketMemos/12Memos/October2012/oct...
We look forward to working closely with faculty and staff to continue to grow UNI's reputation as a leading undergraduate university.
