Professor Katherine Martin, head of Collection Management & Special Services in the University of Northern Iowa's Rod Library, has been named acting dean of the library. She replaces Marilyn Mercado, who will retire on June 30. Martin's appointment is effective July 1.
"I'm very pleased Kate will serve as acting dean," said UNI Executive Vice President and Provost Gloria Gibson. "Her experience and dedication make her well-suited for this assignment."
A search committee for a permanent replacement will be named this fall.
UNI's new College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences will officially take the place of the former College of Humanities and Fine Arts, and College of Natural Sciences on Friday, July 1. The new consolidated college is the result of recommendations of Executive Vice President and Provost Gloria Gibson. A transition committee, chaired by Professors Betty DeBerg and Cliff Chancey, worked for more than a year to develop and carryout plans for the reorganization.
