Readmission After Suspension
The Application for Readmission from Academic Suspension is available on our website. This application is only applicable to undergraduate students who are seeking readmission from Academic Suspension.
Graduate Students who have been placed on Graduate Suspension must go through a different process for readmission. If you are a graduate student, please contact the Graduate College for further information.
An undergraduate student who has been Academically Suspended may be readmitted only after applying for readmission and receiving favorable action on the application from the Committee on Admission and Retention. Applications for Readmission should be filed with the secretary of the Committee on Admission and Retention, Mary Baumann, (319-273-2112 or Mary.Baumann@uni.edu), in the Office of the Registrar. The completed Application for Readmission from Academic Suspension and all supporting documents must be received in the Office of the Registrar at least seven calendar days prior to the beginning of the term for which the student is requesting enrollment.
An undergraduate student who is readmitted after Academic Suspension will be placed on Academic Probation following Suspension beginning with the semester immediately following his/her return to UNI. A student readmitted after Academic Suspension must earn a minimum semester GPA of 2.00 for each semester after being readmitted until his/her UNI GPA reaches 2.00 or higher. While on Academic Probation following Suspension, the student will be limited to 14 credit hours for the semester.
Academic Suspension for a second time is considered permanent. Only the most extenuating circumstances would warrant consideration for readmission from Academic Suspension a second time.
At the end of the student's semester on Academic Probation following Suspension, one of the following actions will be taken:
- The student will be permanently academically suspended if his/her GPA for the semester is less than a 2.00.
- The student will continue on Academic Probation following Suspension if his/her GPA for the semester is a 2.00 or higher and his/her UNI GPA remains below a 2.00.
- The student will be removed from Academic Probation following Suspension and shall be in good academic standing if his/her UNI GPA is a 2.00 or higher.
It is strongly recommended that you read the Procedure for Applying for Readmission and the Committee of Admission and Retention prior to filling out and submitting your application for consideration.
Undergraduate students wishing to discuss probation/suspension policy at UNI, or seeking information regarding return after suspension, may make an appointment with Mary Baumann, Associate Registrar, Office of the Registrar, (319-273-2112 or Mary.Baumann@uni.edu).
