For the past five months, Snitker has been living in China and interning with Lianmei Machinery Co. in Dalian. The internship opportunity with Lianmei, a firm that supplies specialty foundry parts to various companies, was established last year during a UNI faculty visit to Dalian. |

If that's true, then I'm sure many of the men in the University of Northern Iowa Varsity Men's Glee Club have never felt more alive than during the summer 2010 trip to Italy. DAY 1: AMERICA We departed from Cedar Falls by bus on the morning of Wednesday, May 12. We arrived at the Chicago O'Hare Airport at about 12:30. Our flight departed from Chicago at about 4:30 as we prepared to explore European lands for the next nine days! |

Wednesday, July 21, 2010College Hill Arts Festival- an annual attraction at UNISunshine, music and people filled the University of Northern Iowa campus at the corner of College and West 23rd Streets July 16-17 for the 32nd annual College Hill Arts Festival. Each summer, the festival brings the UNI campus to life with art, music and food. About 75 artists from various parts of the country attended the festival to showcase and sell their high-quality art in categories such as jewelry, sculpture, painting, pastel, ceramics, graphics/printmaking, mixed media, fiber, photography, glass and wood. |

Sunday, July 18, 2010Sculptors create Special Olympics metal cauldronIt was a combination of experience and a strong work ethic that enabled sculptors Dan Perry and Beth Nybeck to complete a project commissioned for the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games. Made of steel sheet metal and spun steel elements, their 13-foot cauldron sculpture will serve as the focal point at the opening ceremony and during the six days of games to be held in Nebraska July 18-23. |

The UNI group, led by program coordinator and UNI marketing professor Chris Schrage, joined students from the University of Economics in Katowice, Poland, Dalian Nationalities University in China and EAFIT University in Colombia to learn about each other's cultures and business. |

Monday, May 31, 2010UNI sophomore wins national carpet design contestA strong idea and successful execution was the key combination in Emily Riebkes winning carpet designs. Riebkes, a sophomore interior design major from Wellsburg, won the student grand prize in the Durkan D*scover Design Competition for her work and received a $3,000 scholarship and trip to Las Vegas for the Hospitality Design Exposition. While enrolled in the Design 1 Studio class taught by Jillissa Moorman, UNI assistant professor of interior design, Riebkes entered the carpet design contest. |

Monday, May 17, 2010Dalai Lama: seek happiness via the insideHis Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet was welcomed to the University of Northern Iowa by a sell-out crowd of more than 5,400 people in the McLeod Center. Just as with the morning session, the Dalai Lama took the stage for his afternoon keynote to a great deal of applause. He then put on a purple and gold UNI visor to more applause, explaining it's to keep the bright lights from hurting his eyes. |
