Call for Study Abroad program proposals

The Study Abroad Center (SAC) is planning study abroad programs for the 2014-15 academic year. This past year, the SAC oversaw 26 short-term, instructor-led programs in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America. Coursework included Organizational Management, Multicultural Counseling, Human Relations and Spanish in addition to many capstone options. Library hours between summer session & fall semester

Library hours between summer session and fall semester are posted online. There will be no special vacation loans during semester break. Library online resources are available 24/7; if off campus, you will get a prompt to enter your CatID.

CIEP seeks families to befriend international students

Order 2014-15 parking permits

Permanent faculty and staff have until Aug. 15 to take advantage of the monthly pre-tax payment option for parking permit fees. This applies to G, Gm, A and B permits. Order permits in person, in 030 GIL or via the online parking permit application. For more information, call 273-2710.

Pardon our progress

Starting Tuesday, July 29, physical plant painters will begin painting crosswalk markings. Areas will be marked off with orange cones and the painters will be wearing safety clothing. G parking permit lottery for 2014-15

The deadline to submit names for the 24 "G" parking spaces in the furthest north row of the Gilchrist Lot and the 31 spaces in the Multimodal Transportation Center is 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 25. Make requests online or in writing to Public Safety. Written requests should include name, campus address and lot of interest. Any unsold G and GM permits at the beginning of the fall semester may be sold to students via a lottery system. The yearly G permit fee is $406.20; the GM permit is $417.60. Permanent employees interested in choosing the 12-month pre-tax payroll deduction payment option must be available between July 31 and Aug. 15 to receive notification of their status and purchase the permit. College Hill Farmers Market to feature DJs

The College Hill Farmers Market brings fresh, local foods to the UNI campus and surrounding communities from 4 to 6 p.m. every Thursday, now through October. The CEEE sponsors and manages the market on the corner of College and W. 22nd streets. On July 24 the market will feature an all-vinyl party with double DJs Pals and Dusty.

Volunteers still needed for the UNI exhibit at the State Fair

Show your support for the university by volunteering for four hours at UNI's exhibit at the Iowa State Fair, Aug. 7 through 17. Volunteers receive a UNI T-shirt and free admission ticket, and are asked to interact with interested fairgoers, prospective and current students, families and alumni, in addition to handing out UNI giveaways. Campus wildflower walks

Laura Jackson, director of the Tallgrass Prairie Center, will lead a tour of wildflowers on campus. Take a Well-being Walk from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17, starting at the Maucker Union Plaza; on July 24, the tour starts near the Panther Plot (behind the Biology Research Complex). Different flowers are in bloom every week, so come for one or both. Contact Laura Jackson with questions.

Hudson Road overpass closure

Weather permitting, routine maintenance work on the Hudson Road overpass will begin Wednesday, July 16. Bridge access will be restored Monday, July 21. Use the 27th Street crosswalk instead. If you have any questions, contact Tony Hanson at 273-3126.

Essentials, Chats and Prexy's in Maucker Union will be closed Friday, July 4 in observance of the holiday. Prexy's and Essentials will resume normal hours on Monday, July 7. Due to a water shut-down in Maucker Union, Chat's won't open until 10 a.m.

Motorcycle parking available in the MMTC

Motorcycle parking has been added to the Multimodal Transportation Center. The designated area is located on the upper level in stalls 112-115. An MC permit is required to park in the spaces. Visitors can purchase time at the pay station.

Fourth of July hosting opportunity

The Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP) is coordinating a host day event for CIEP students who want to learn about American culture on the Fourth of July. Volunteers and families will pick students up from campus around noon and bring them along for their family or holiday festivities, returning the students to campus after day activities or evening fireworks. Volunteer families may host one to four students, depending on each volunteer's capacity and preferences. To sign up, contact Sally Roos.
