Apply for McElroy Fellowship

The McElroy Fellowship is for students who intend to pursue a Ph.D. and must have graduated in December 2013 or will graduate in May 2014 with a liberal arts degree. Awardees will receive $10,000 per year for three years to help with education costs. Application details are posted online. The on-campus application deadline is Friday, Jan. 31. Library hours for Dec. 11 through 17 are extended hours. Patrons may check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Library online resources are available 24/7.

Math and Science Services tutoring hours for finals week

Math and Science Services, located in 008 ITTC, will not offer one-on-one math and science tutoring appointments during finals week. Walk-in hours have been extended to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16 through Thursday, Dec. 19. A-Team will be held during its regular hours from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Rod Library's Browsing Room. For more information, contact Latricia Hylton at 273-2361.

Early processing of student timecards for Dec. 23 payday

Dec. 14 is the cutoff date for the Dec. 23 biweekly payday. Because of the Christmas holiday, timecards will be processed early and must be approved by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17 to be included in the Dec. 23 paycheck.

Third Annual Conference on African American Children and Families

 The Third Annual Conference on African American Children and Families will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, in the SEC. The pre-conference and conference are free for UNI undergraduate students and faculty. Course credits are available. On Tuesday, Dec. 10, OPN Architects will unveil conceptual drawings that outline a 10-year vision for potential space changes to the Rod Library. This open house will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on the second floor behind the Reference Desk; refreshments will be served.

The December issues of Student Health 101 (SH101), the WRS E-Newsletter and the WRS Personal Fitness newsletter are now posted online. SH101 is a national publication focusing on college student interests. The WRS newsletters focus on WRS activities and topics of the month.

Affordable Care Act forum

Learn what the Affordable Care Act (ACA) means to you during an educational forum at 3 and 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, in Ballroom C, MAU. Health and Human Services regional director Stephene Moore will present information on the ACA and how to navigate the health insurance marketplace. A Q&A will follow. These forums are of particular interest to college students who currently don't have or will soon lose their health insurance plan.

Application maintenance to SIS systems

SIS systems will be unavailable for application and database maintenance from 1 to 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7. This includes the following: My Universe Portal, SIS campus solutions, SIS CRM application, SIS EPM data warehouse applications, the Application for Admission and the online class search. 2013 and prior year W-2 statements

Effective Jan. 7, 2014, yearend W-2 forms will be available online only to student employees who have made the one-time election to have an electronic W-2 and not receive a paper W-2 in the mail. If you have not previously made this election, it can be made through UNI Student Employee Self Service>W-2 Delivery Preference. Diversity Matters award nominations due Dec. 12

The Diversity Matters Award is presented annually in recognition of dedication and service to UNI in advancement of its diversity-related goals. Those eligible include faculty, staff, students and community members. Recommendations for the award are made to the president who makes the final selection. Additional information and the nomination form are available online. Deadline for nominations is midnight, Thursday, Dec. 12. Awards will be presented at the Town Hall Meeting on Diversity, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22. A Diversity Fair will precede the event from 1 to 2 p.m. Both events will be at the Old Central Ballroom, MAU.
