UNI Public Safety to host emergency exercise

The UNI Department of Public Safety and the UNI Environmental Health & Safety offices will conduct an emergency exercise at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Latham Hall. Other local first response agencies will also participate and various emergency vehicles will be used. The exercise should be completed by noon.

Celebrate Veterans Day by wearing gear from your service branch or a family member's; attending a flag ceremony at 11 a.m., at the West Gym; watching the movie "Story of America's Female Patriots" at 12:15 p.m., in the CME; or attending the Veterans Ball at 6 p.m. Register online for the ball. Reflections of a female Army civilian in Afghanistan

Michele Devlin, HPELS, will describe her experience in a non-combat role with the U.S. military working with local populations at 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, in the CME. She will discuss how the role of civilians differs from the military and provide an understanding of civil-military response to crises around the world.

Another LED upgrade

UNI is upgrading 40 pedestrian pole lights with new LED fixtures. These are being installed south and west of Maucker Union and are in line with the campus' focus on sustainability because they use 70 percent less energy.

Theatre UNI opens 'Love and Information'

The play "Love and Information" explores how social media affects our interactions through fragments snatched from personal relationships. It is produced in partnership with UNI's Cornerstone course, which focuses on media and social media. Violent Incident Defense Strategies-V.I.D.S.

Polar Bare Run

The annual Polar Bare Run will be held Nov. 11 at 9 p.m. at the Alumni House. The one-mile walk/run is free but participants are asked to bring clothing and nonperishable food donations to the event. Donations will be given to the House of Hope and Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Two clothing donations and four food donations will earn participants one entry to the prize raffle that will take place after the race. Register online.

New UNI Museums exhibit opening Oct. 16

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, UNI Museums will open an exhibit that explores the Cedar Valley during this time and Iowa's contribution to the war. The exhibit will open Thursday, Oct. 16, in Rod Library.
