Film discussion: Black Masculinities in Comics

Rod Library will host a film discussion at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, in 324 LIB. "White Scripts and Black Supermen: Black Masculinities in Comics," is a documentary that explores how black men are represented in comic books through the course of time.  Following the film, Sade Barfield, communication studies, will lead a discussion.

Protect students from sexual assault: public listening sessions

UNI students can participate in a series of virtual, public listening sessions focusing on how schools can prevent sexual assault and better respond when it happens. The first listening session, Students and Survivors, will be from 3 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12. Two additional Students and Survivors sessions will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, and 4 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25. To register, visit the public listening session website.

Continuing Education and Special Programs offices relocated

Continuing Education and Special Programs, including Continuing and Distance Education and Individual Studies, have moved. The new location is in the CEEE, Rooms 13, 16, 18 and 20. All phone numbers and campus mail codes will remain the same.

Blind date with a book at the Rod Library

The Rod Library will offer a fun reading promotion called Blind Date with a Book Feb. 10 through 21. Readers are invited to check out a book wrapped in brown paper, take it home, unwrap it and read it. Visit the library to pick out a book for your very own blind date.

15th Annual White Privilege Conference

The White Privilege Conference provides a challenging and collaborative experience with campuses and communities working toward diversity inclusion and social justice. Expect heavy traffic Friday on Hudson Road

Luke Bryan will perform in the UNI-Dome at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7. Heavy traffic should be expected beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Hudson Road and areas of west campus. Staff are encouraged to avoid Hudson Road when leaving campus for the day; consider using University Avenue, College Street or any other eastern route.

This award is given to one faculty member at UNI who has demonstrated excellence in academic advising for students. Nominations are due by Friday, Feb. 7 and can be made by faculty, staff and students. Additional information is available online.

Hey UNI...QUASH is back!

QUASH is the Quest to Unravel Alzheimer's Scavenger Hunt. Teams of two to four participants will compete in a scavenger hunt around campus and the surrounding area. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Register online today.

February issues of Student Health 101 (SH101), the WRS E-Newsletter and WRS Personal Fitness are now posted online. SH101 is a national publication focusing on college student interests. The WRS newsletters focus on WRS activities and topics of the month.

Plan now for Spotlight on STEM Day 2014

The Spotlight on STEM Day is dedicated to the presentation of award-winning pre-K-through-12 earth science, inquiry and/or math-based classroom projects. Table displays and presentations are planned. Baker parking lot to close

The HC and service parking lot directly south of Baker Hall will be closed starting in early February. HC parking stalls are available in the Gilchrist A lot. When the site is restored in the fall of 2014, the HC lot will reopen in the present location. Contact Steve Pavelec at 273-6165 with any questions or concerns.
