Rainbow Reception

The 5th annual Rainbow Reception will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the GBPAC. This is an opportunity for staff, faculty and students to welcome back the LGBT* community and celebrate the new academic year. Community and campus resources will be available. A brief program will begin at 6 p.m., and appetizers will be served.

Daniel Webster Law Society will host a law school Q&A at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, in 023 SAB. Scott Peters, political science and pre-law adviser, will discuss how to prepare for law school, factors that law schools consider in admission, preparing for the LSATs and other areas of concern for pre-law students. On Sept. 11 we remember those impacted by the terrorist attacks in 2001. Please join the UNI Veterans Association and Military and Veterans Student Services and bring a flag of remembrance to the Campanile lawn or donate at a table in Maucker Union. Flags should be less than 2-feet tall.

Intuitive Eating Workshop- Four one-hour sessions

Intuitive Eating is an approach that teaches you how to create a healthy relationship with your food, mind and body. Learn how to distinguish between physical and emotional feelings, and gain a sense of body wisdom as you reject the diet mentality. The university is working to reduce its peak electricity demand that is traditionally set at this time of year. The forecast for this week is highs in the upper 80s, especially today. Please do your part to reduce electrical use. More information is posted at the energy savings website.

Food Network star to visit UNI Harvest Festival

UNI's annual Harvest Festival is from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Panther Plot. It will feature a special appearance and cooking demonstration by Amy Thielen from the Food Network. She also will give a keynote address from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 4, in the Ballroom, MAU. More information is posted on the sustainability website

The WRS Fitness and Leisure brochure is available online; link to fitness and leisure. Check out these new classes: Tai Chi, Nia, CycleBlast and TRX Boot camp. There are 56 different sections to choose from. All instructors are certified and fitness studios are filled with state-of-the-art equipment. Classes begin Monday, Sept. 8.

Pardon our progress

Starting Tuesday, July 29, physical plant painters will begin painting crosswalk markings. Areas will be marked off with orange cones and the painters will be wearing safety clothing. College Hill Farmers Market to feature DJs

The College Hill Farmers Market brings fresh, local foods to the UNI campus and surrounding communities from 4 to 6 p.m. every Thursday, now through October. The CEEE sponsors and manages the market on the corner of College and W. 22nd streets. On July 24 the market will feature an all-vinyl party with double DJs Pals and Dusty.

Campus wildflower walks

Laura Jackson, director of the Tallgrass Prairie Center, will lead a tour of wildflowers on campus. Take a Well-being Walk from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17, starting at the Maucker Union Plaza; on July 24, the tour starts near the Panther Plot (behind the Biology Research Complex). Hudson Road overpass closure

Weather permitting, routine maintenance work on the Hudson Road overpass will begin Wednesday, July 16. Bridge access will be restored Monday, July 21. Use the 27th Street crosswalk instead. If you have any questions, contact Tony Hanson at 273-3126.

UNI is offering complimentary wifi access to visitors and guests via the 'attwifi' network, which will replace 'UNI-Guest' in most campus locations. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to continue using the secure 'WiFi-UNI' network. More information is posted on the ITS website.

Campanile repair work to start

Weather permitting, work on the exterior of the Campanile will start Monday, June 9. Work will include roof revisions on the bell deck and cleaning the brick and limestone. The area will be closed off the last week of June in order to replace the wire mesh guards in the arch openings. If you have any problems or a tentative event scheduled for this area, contact either Joe Boutott or Tony Hanson in the Physical Plant at 273-4400.

UNI's Panther Pick Up is Wednesday, May 7 through Friday, May 9. St. Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army trucks will be located throughout campus and will accept clothing, dishes, furniture, carpet and other useable household items.
