Curriculum Development

This initiative is focusing on incorporating real-time weather information into K-9 classrooms. A core group of master teachers from across the United States has been and will continue to be designing, testing, and evaluating activities that will eventually be disseminated to a national audience. Many activities are already in use in classrooms across the United States by hundreds of pre-college teachers.

The Team Leader in this area is Prof. Tim Cooney in the Department of Earth Science. Development efforts began at the American Meteorological Society's Annual Meeting in New Mexico in January 2001 and continued at UNI in July 2001 at the Curriculum Development Workshop.

Materials consist of activities that the students complete using real-time weather information from the STORM Project web site. The materials continue to be designed and tested. If you are an elementary or middle school teacher, and would like to help evaluate these materials, contact Prof. Tim Cooney for copies, and see the links to STORM's Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Activities.
