Job characteristics and descriptions for mathematics and science tutorsMath and Science Services (a division of UNI’s Academic Learning Center) hires students who have a high commitment to helping others achieve their academic goals. Candidates should be able to relate to and understand students from diverse backgrounds and interests. Mathematics and science tutors help students in a variety of settings — workshops, seminars, and individual conferences. Our goals are to help students develop effective study strategies in the areas of mathematics and science, and use appropriate campus resources to enhance student learning. The ideal candidate should be able to competently tutor students in mathematics courses through: Calculus, all LAC science and math courses, have a strong math and science background, relate to diverse students, be able to work some day and evening hours, be organized, be able to work with multiple students on different topics, and keep accurate records. Selected candidates are expected to attend all training and staff meetings and have the opportunity to obtain teaching experience by teaching GRE and PPST math review courses. Students with work study, strong statistics background, and the ability to tutor both math and science courses are preferred. Submit completed application, college transcript or degree audit, and a resume with three references that can attest to your mathematics, science, and tutor ability by the deadline noted below to Marieta Cardamone in the Academic Learning Center located in ITTC 008 or via email at marieta.cardamone@uni.edu. Individuals who will be student teaching, holding a full-time internship during the academic year, or graduating within a year should not apply.
