Asian American Women’s Popular Literature: Feminizing Genres and Neoliberal Belonging by Pamela Thoma analyzes how popular genre fiction, written by Asian American women and featuring Asian American characters, depicts both contemporary American-ness and contributes to public dialogue about national belonging. Thoma focuses on how such fiction addresses attempts women, make in a neoliberal society, to balance their personal and professional lives. Book club sessions are open to the public. If one has not read the book, one is still encouraged to attend and participate in discussion.

The Master of Social Work Student Association is hosting guest speaker Alyson Beytien, behavior apecialist for the Mercy Autism Center in Dubuque.. She will present “What do I do TOMORROW? Five Keys to Supporting a Child with Autism." The challenges of supporting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder are many and the amount of research and interventions currently available can be overwhelming. This presentation focuses on what everyone --- parents, teachers, extended family and support personnel – can do each day to ensure success for the child and all involved. This presentation is full of humor, reality and practical ideas. Q & A follows if time allows; refreshments provided.
