Outreach/Service Projects

Sunday, April 12, 2015 - 1:00 pm

Participiate in the UNI Out of the Darkness Campus Walk and join the effort to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss. As the leader in the fight against suicide, AFSP has set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20 percent by 2025. Check-in begins at 1 p.m. with the walk beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

Monday, April 13, 2015 - 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm

St. Stephen's Adopt A Grandparent: spend time with residents of Cedar Falls Healthcare Center to provide an uplifting part of the resident's day. Participants can interact with residents by making puzzles, conversing, helping out with daily tasks, and more! Transportation is provided for this event. Meet at St. Stephen's on 23rd Street at 3:00pm to participate. Sign up by midnight on Friday, April 10th.

Monday, April 13, 2015 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Service and Leadership Service Projects in the Mauker Union Ballroom

We'll have a room full of service projects. Come as long as you'd like, for 15 minutes or 2 hours! We'll be doing a variety of service projects to help others in need. Some of the projects include:

  • Creating literacy kits for children
  • Making fleece blankets for local children's hospitals
  • Making place mats for the Food Bank
  • Creating bird houses for a nursing home
  • Putting together an Act of Kindness for our facility & maintenance crews here at UNI
  • Decorating picture frames with poems for nursing homes/hospitals
  • AND MORE!

SLC Volunteer Tuesday

There will be two seesions on Tuesday, April 14th 3:30-5:30 or 5:30-7:30

Center for Multicultural Education (CME - upstairs Mauker Union)

We will be volunteering at the Cedar Valley Arboretum this week. There are two sessions for volunteers. Sign up for the time that works best for your schedule! Meet in the CME, and transportation and a snack will be provided. Volunteers will be assisting with various sustainability projects at the Arboretum to improve our planet. Please wear clothing that you won't mind getting dirty. Come volunteer with us!

Wednesday, April 15, 2015 - 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

The Service and Leadership Council will host a session of planting grass cups and making dog tags.

The UNI Suzuki School will present the spring Northern Iowa Junior Orchestra concert. This event is free and open to the public.

Join UNI professors in reading Farmacology by Dr. Daphne Miller. Participate in professor led discussions in Rod Library or via Adobe Connect. Advance registration is required. The Autism and Arts Education Symposium is a 2-day conference that features research, practice and showcase in the arts and autism. The purpose of the symposium is to bring together researchers, practitioners, teachers, therapists and parents who specialize in arts education for children with autism with the purpose of sharing ideas and learning more about the benefits of the arts for children with autism. The UNI Children's Choir will offer their spring concert as part of the School of Music Spotlight Series, under the direction of Michelle Swanson. This event is ticketed. For tickets, call 319-273-4TIX.

Monday, May 4, 2015 - 7:30 pm

The New Horizons Band will offer its spring concert. Under the direction of Diana Blake, the New Horizons Band features musicians 55 and older who travel from all over Iowa. This event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, May 17, 2015 - 4:00 pm

The UNI Suzuki School will offer a spring concert. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, May 19, 2015 - 6:00 pm

The UNI Suzuki School will offer their spring honors recital. This event is free and open to the public.
