There are many strategies for forecasting precipitation type. The strategy proposed here is to use the 850 mb temperature forecasts as your guide: if the temperature over ALO is forecast to be above freezing, forecast "rain/freezing rain"; if the temperature over ALO is forecast to be below freezing, forecast "snow/frozen precip.". Statistical guidance ("model output statistics", or MOS) based on the NGM is also available for precipitation type.
