ENGLISH 5133 Teaching First-Year College Writing -- 3 unit(s)

IWP aspires to convene a diverse group of practitioners who want to explore the nature of, issues in, and exemplary practices for teaching writing to students at the point of transition into college. The workshop experience involves relevant professional literature on practice, theory and context; interaction among participants about their own practices; examination of student work and artifacts of participants’ practices and reflective writing as a key to learning. We want to involve teachers from both two- and four-year colleges, as well as high school teachers who are teaching courses which carry college credit. Since such high school teachers are generally authorized by a local college, a team of a community college and a high school teacher could participate together.
