Reminder: Turnitin will have a scheduled system maintenance on Saturday, Mar. 7, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM CST. Due to the maintenance, Turnitin may be briefly unavailable between those times. The outage will have the following impact to users:

Students: During the outage period, students may not be able to upload assignments to Turninin or view their marked up assignments in Turnitin.

Instructors: During the outage period, instructors may be unable to access Turnitin assignments.

Due to the winter weather, the Spotlight on STEM Day has been canceled.

The Spotlight on STEM Day will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Innovative Teaching and Technology Center (ITTC) buiding. The Spotlight Day will showcase award-winning PreK-12 examples of technology integrated into earth-science and math curriculum. Spotlight Gallery (table displays) are 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the ITTC Student Lounge. Spotlight Presentations are 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the ITTC's StudioIT labs. On Wednesday, February 11, 2015 - 6-7 a.m. CST, the UNI eLearning System will be UNAVAILABLE that the Information Services Team can apply patches to the database servers for eLearning.

A patch applied to the eLearning system on Friday January 30th intended to improve the printing of eLearning pages introduced a bug that caused the test timer status bar to become "stuck" in the middle of the screen. This blocked the view of test questions and required students to scroll around to see the test questions and answers. After working with system administrators other institutions and Blackboard support we were able to correct this issue. Thank you to the users who reported this via the Contact eLearning Support link, and to the UNI and Allen College students and faculty for their patience while we worked to correct this issue.

On Friday, January 30, 2015 from 5-7 a.m. CST, the UNI eLearning System will be UNAVAILABLE so that we can apply server OS security updates and install software patches to the eLearning (Blackboard) application itself.

The UNI eLearning servers started coming back online at 1:09 p.m. CST and access to users was restored at 1:19 p.m. CST. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences. The "Emergency Network Maintenance" performed at noon broke the connection between the eLearning application servers and the eLearning database. It took about an hour for the network team to troubleshoot and resolve the connection issues.

The "Emergency Network Maintenance" performed at noon has taken the UNI eLearning System OFFLINE. We are working on getting the UNI eLearning System back online. Our apologies for the inconveniences.

Post Resolution information:

When a user logs into eLearning for the fist time after 7 AM Friday, January 16, 2015, they may see a very large number of pending notifications, this is the result of the eLearning system working through the backlog of notifications for display. These notifications will have an "ago" time based on 7 AM Friday, January 16, 2015. We apologize for the inconveniences, confusion, and frustrations this may cause.

About the resolved bug:

There is a verified and known bug with the "Updates" notifications for My Blackboard. Users are seeing a number in the red badge but when they click through to the "Updates" section, few, if any, course updates are being displayed. Users should visit their eLearning course(s) and review the "What's New" and "To Do" module on the Course Dashboard. Notifications sent via the Mobile App and eMail were unaffected. We apologize for the inconveniences, confusion, and frustrations this software bug is causing. Thank you to those users that reported this issue.

We have received a patch from Blackboard Support and will be installing that the morning of Friday, January 16, 2015. After the patch is installed, past and current notifications should display. No data has been lost. The software is simply not displaying most course notifications in the "Updates" section of My Blackboard.
