Workshop Goals:

Short Term Goals:

Workshop participants will be able to operate the laptop computer and software provided by the project.

The workshop will broaden the knowledge and skill level of participating K-12 public school teachers in the use of the computer in telecommunications.

Workshop participants will be able to access information and demonstrate the ability to use Internet resources.

To meet this goal, the participant will be able to:

    1. Set-up and operate the basic functions of the laptop computers.
    2. Create, format and save a basic word processing document.
    3. Define Internet related terms: World Wide Web (WWW), Internet Service Provider (ISP), web browser, hypertext, Uniform Resource Locator (URL), homepage, web site, web page.
    4. Utilize Netscape Navigator (web browser software) to locate information on the Internet.
    5. Use at least two search engines/subject guides with appropriate search strategies to locate desired information.
    6. Evaluate Internet sites by the four categories: 1-accuracy, 2-ease of navigation, 3-content, and 4-appearance.
    7. Explain the copyright guidelines for the use of the World Wide Web.
    8. Send and receive electronic mail (e-mail) messages.
    9. Integrate Internet resources in classroom teaching and learning activities.
    10. Explain challenges facing teachers as they integrate Internet resources into their classroom teaching and learning activities.
    11. Explain teacher requirements for participation in the project.
Long Term Goals:

The workshop will result in the preparation of mentors who can assist other educators in the use of Internet resources in their department, school, school district or state.

The workshop will increase teacher and student use of Internet resources in Iowa’s K-12 public schools.
