UNI CIO Shashi Kaparthi is pleased to announce that UNI will be moving all faculty, and staff to UNI Gmail and Google Applications for Education (Google Apps) during the fall of 2011. This change offers UNI a comprehensive and evolving set of collaboration and communication tools that will enhance both instruction and campus operations. UNI Gmail and Google Apps offers easy-to-use tools and significantly increased storage at a fraction of the cost the University would have incurred otherwise. This fall ITS will focus on migrating all users from the current UNI Email system to UNI Gmail. Other features of Google Apps will be enabled and promoted throughout the year.
ITS has been migrating new and existing students to UNI Gmail and Google Apps since late spring. We now have over half of our student body using these tools. The process for migrating faculty and staff will provide flexibility to individuals while allowing College and Divisional technical staff to coordinate and manage this migration. You should be hearing shortly from your support staff on the process they envision for your department.
Here is the timetable for faculty/staff migration.
- Sept. 6, 2011 College and Divisional technical staff will begin coordinating faculty/staff email migration. This process is intended to be completed in two months.
- Nov. 7, 2011 ITS will start the migration of departmental and other non-user email accounts.
- Nov. 14, 2011 ITS will migrate all user accounts that have not voluntarily moved.
- Nov. 29, 2011 Current UNI Email system (Collab Suite) will no longer send or receive email. All email will be processed through UNI Gmail.
