CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – In January 2017, the UNI Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP) will host 20 students from South Korea who will be participating in the Multiculturalism Immersion Program. This cohort is the result of collaboration between UNI, Kyungpook National University (KNU) and Korea National University of Education (KNUE). The students will be arriving on Tuesday, Jan. 3 and will enroll in classes for a three-week program.

The students will take an English Proficiency Test through UNI's E-learning portal. They will register on Wednesday, Jan. 4, and will tour UNI's campus. Classes will begin on Thursday, Jan. 5, and there will be many other opportunities for the students to experience UNI's culture through CIEP. The students will depart from UNI on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

"Hosting international students on our campus is so important because of the opportunities these students bring," said Cristy Steffen, promotions and admissions specialist for the CIEP. "Not only do they increase the diversity of our campus, but they also provide an opportunity for international students to interact and share their culture with U.S. students. Hosting students from other countries provides global experiences to students without having to leave campus. We learn so much from each other, including how to celebrate our differences and gain new perspectives about our world."

There are three faculty members that will be working directly with the students, including Victoria DeFranciso, professor of communication studies, Tammy Gregersen, professor of languages and literatures and Sohyun Meacham, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction.
