2024 News & Updates

Since beginning my tenure as president of the University of Northern Iowa in 2017, I’ve gained even more appreciation for this great institution. Our commitment to student success and the state of Iowa truly sets us apart from our peers. Part of what makes UNI unique is our ability to assess where we are at and where we need to go in order to serve our students today and in the future.

UNI is undergoing numerous renovation and expansion projects to ensure we are fully equipped to meet the needs of students and our community for many years to come.

One of the most exciting updates is that we recently completed Phase I of our Applied Engineering Building renovation project. The newly-renovated facility, which has been expanded by 50%, welcomed students after spring break. This modernization focuses on technology-driven education to meet the demands of Iowa's workforce. Phase 2 is on target to wrap in December 2024.

This December is also the target date to complete the expansion of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, which will enhance event spaces, facility aesthetics and seating.

As we look to the future, UNI has big things on the horizon, including its upcoming sesquicentennial celebration that begins in 2025 as our institution welcomes its 150th class to campus. The commemoration of UNI’s 150th birthday in 2026 anniversary will also coincide with the conclusion of the Our Tomorrow campaign. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our donors, we recently increased our campaign goal to $300 million.

As we celebrate all that has happened in the last 150 years, we look forward to the next 150 with great anticipation. No matter what challenges may lay ahead, we will face them together as an institution built on resilience, innovation and an unwavering commitment to student success.

Panther Proud!
