P&S Policies and Procedures Phase II Recommendation Feedback

P&S Policies and Procedures Committee has just completed their recommendation for Phase II P&S Policies and Procedures updates and are seeking your feedback on this very important document. You have two options for providing feedback.

  • Open Forum on Tuesday, June 17, 2014; 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Maucker Union Oak Room
    We will discuss the changes, and the P&S Policies and Procedures Committee will be available to answer questions and to take comments. Additional sessions will be added if needed. Please contact Carol Fletcher at carol.fletcher@uni.edu or at 319-273-7452 if you are unable to attend the forum and would like to see another forum added.
  • Feel free to use our Google Survey to provide feedback on the Phase II proposal at your convenience. This survey will be available through July 15, 2014. Responses will be anonymous unless you choose to share your name.

Overview of P&S Policies Phase II Changes:
The main focus for the P&S Policies and Procedures review includes:

  • Clarification of wording to help everyone understand the policies and procedures
  • Elimination of redundancies in sections of the document
  • Update references to appropriate department, division, Executive Management Team, etc.

The suggested revisions include:

  • Clarification of the Classification/Reclassification process
  • Clarification of promotion opportunities and the use of the pay grade matrix
  • Changed “staff” and “personnel” to P&S “employee” for consistency throughout the document
  • Clarification of the need to post all positions, but posting can be done just internally or externally and internally

Some changes to the policies include:

  • Clarification of a position that is eligible for Continuous Service Status by adding a Career Appointment which includes: Probationary Status; Career Status and Continuing Service Status
  • Addition of a deadline to start the hiring process for an Acting Appointment

Future review needs:

  • Although we encourage a future thorough review and discussion of the P&S Grievance Section, the only changes made to this section was to make P&S “employee” reference consistent.
