Academic Course Numbers to Change

Posted on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

As mentioned in a previous story, you will see many changes when the Fall 2011 Schedule of Classes is released. One of those changes will be new academic course numbers. For example, we have come to know 400 courses as Psychology courses, 120 courses as Accounting courses, and 210 courses as Elementary, Early Childhood, and Middle Level Education courses.

Starting Fall 2011, departments will have an alpha code for their department followed by a four digit course number. Currently, courses are listed as a three digit department number followed by a three digit course number.

Let's Do a Few Examples Together:

Social Services and Social Work
Currently It Is: 450:042
It Will be Changing To: SW 2042

World Geography
Currently It Is: 970:040
It Will Be Changing To: GEOG 1110

Life: The Natural World
Currently It Is: 840:013
It Will Be Changing To: BIOL 1013

Africa
Currently It Is: 680:128
It Will Be Changing To: HUM 3128

These changes can already be seen in the 2010-2012 University Catalog! A "crosswalk" is currently being developed that will display what the current numbers are and they they will be changing to; it will be made available later this semester to the university community on our website and from the University Catalog website. For your convenience, we will provide a detailed explanation of the changes in our Spring 2011 PAWSitive Impact Newsletter.

Please be checking the "Announcements" on our website for more information pertaining to academic course renumbering!
