Why did you choose UNI?

When I was a high school senior I thought I had it all figured out. I had intentions of going to another state school when my mom forced me to come to UNI for their UNIBusiness College Visit Day. By the end of the day, I had fallen in love with UNI and the College of Business Administration.

What surprised you most about UNI?

The reputation of the College of Business Administration. Coming here, I thought a business degree is a business degree, but in reality it's not. The professional world recognizes UNI business students as top candidates for careers at their companies and we're always being recognized as a leading school.

How has your academic experience been?

Overall, my academic experience here at UNI has been great. I am very happy with my major. I have found that there are so many different opportunities available in the professional world. I really feel like I have found the major that best fits me. It's a very exciting and fast-paced field that is always developing, so to be current, you really need to continue reading and learning – which I really enjoy!

What do you plan to do with your UNI education?

I will be joining HNI (the world's second-largest office furniture manufacturer) in their Continuous Improvement's Lean Development Program. I will be heavily involved in Rapid Continuous Improvement (RCI) events that are held at all of the different HNI facilities. I will learn all sorts of aspects of the company while visiting the different facilities.

Major: Elementary/Middle Level Education

College: Education

Hometown: West Union, Iowa

Why did you choose UNI?

I chose UNI because I knew that I wanted to be a teacher and I heard very good things about UNI's education program.

What kind of on-campus organizations and activities were you involved in?

Overall throughout my college career, I was part of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, on the executive board for the St. Jude Up 'til Dawn organization, helped out at the Special Olympics, and did a variety of intramural sports. These things not only helped build my resume, but also made me the person I am today. Going to classes really increased your content knowledge, but these organizations prepared me for the real world.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?

My favorite place on campus is the Maucker Union. The Union is a place that you go to do a variety of things. You can eat there, you can mingle there, or you can study there. It's just a place that you can go to gain knowledge and friendships.

What do you plan to do with your UNI education?

What do I plan to do with my UNI education? I plan to teach…plain and simple. Actually, UNI has prepared me so well that I have been offered and accepted a teaching job at North Cedar Elementary School in Cedar Falls starting Jan. 3. I know that it's not very often that a December graduate in the education field gets a job right away, but it wasn't just me that got me the job. It was the preparation that I had and the community that surrounded me.
