Prairie Walk at Bennington Township Cemetery

A prairie walk at Bennington Township Cemetery will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 17. Bruce Stiles and Daryl Smith will lead participants through this “old settler” cemetery, a mesic prairie remnant with a wide variety of native plants. The cemetery is at the intersection of N. Elk Run Road and E. Mt. Vernon Road, next to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church (4110 E. Mt. Vernon Rd., Waterloo).

New "Release for Publication" privacy option in MyUNIverse

A new Release for Publication option allows students to opt in to publicized Dean's lists, graduation lists and announcements of other awards even if they choose to restrict release of their directory information to third parties for other purposes. Students can view their current settings, review available options and make any desired changes in MyUNIverse by accessing the Privacy tab of Update My Personal Information. Union Drive reconstruction

Beginning Wednesday, June 14, a portion of Union Drive between Maucker Union and Seerley Hall will be closed for reconstruction. Vehicle traffic to the Maucker Union dock and Maucker Union southeast entrance will not be available during construction. Union Drive is expected to be closed until Friday, July 7, depending on weather conditions. The north entrance door to Seerley Hall will serve as an emergency exit only during reconstruction. Grill out at Maucker Union

Join us each Friday through July 7 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a cookout! Dining Services will move operations from inside the food court to outside Maucker Union. They will serve a rotating menu of grilled favorites such as hamburgers, hot dogs and grilled chicken sandwiches, sides and beverages for purchase. In case of inclement weather, grilling will take place inside the food court.

Interim revised policy

An interim revised policy, 7.04 Fire Safety, has been uploaded to the policies website, with the revisions approved on that basis by the president and Executive Management Team on May 22. The revisions relate to pyrotechnics/fireworks. The policy will be reviewed according to the prescribed process during the fall 2017 semester.

Prairie Walk at Wolter's Prairie Preserve

The Cedar Prairie Group of the Sierra Club, the Iowa Prairie Network and Friends of the Tallgrass Prairie Center will host a prairie walk at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at Wolter's Prairie Preserve, Clarksville. Participants should meet at 9:30 am at the Thunder Ridge Mall parking lot to car pool/caravan. Wolter’s Prairie Preserve is a wet mesic prairie with a wide variety of native plants. Daryl Smith will talk about prairie and plant identification. For those who want to join the group at the prairie, it is located 1.5 miles southwest of Clarksville, just north of 195th Street at 19155 Quail Avenue.

Bring the world to your doorstep this summer!

The Culture and Intensive English Program will have a Host Family Day Saturday, June 10. Participants should pick up students at 10 a.m. and bring them back to campus by 8 p.m. New students will be from a variety of countries, including Colombia, Congo, Japan, Uzbekistan and others. No stipend is offered for this volunteer opportunity, but if eating out, students are expected to buy their own meals. Host families are needed for students attending a four-week program in June and a weekend event July 1-2. Email Sally Roos if you are interested in participating.

Training for teaching in CAT (technology-enhanced) classrooms

The CETL and IT-ETMS will offer training on teaching strategies and the technology in CAT classrooms Thursday and Friday, June 1-2. There are CAT classrooms in Bartlett Hall, Schindler Education Center and the ITTC. These classrooms are distinct from other classrooms with basic technology (like projectors and Elmos) because they have additional technology and multiple displays for collaborative work. Summer faculty/staff golf league

Want to meet new people on campus, have fun and get some exercise? Recreation Services is sponsoring a faculty/staff summer golf league at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. The league will begin Thursday, June 1 and run eight successive Thursdays, ending on July 20. You do not have to attend every week. The first tee time will be 4:30 p.m. Dues are $20 and cover the cost of weekly pin prizes. Golfers will pay greens fees for nine holes directly to the course ($15 walking/$23.50 riding). Carry on laptop ban might expand

The recent ban on laptops in carry-on luggage for flights to the United States from a few Middle Eastern countries and/or airports might be expanded to include flights originating in Europe as well. Lifelong Learning University instructors needed

Lifelong Learning University is looking for faculty and staff to teach a course during the fall 2017 and/or spring 2018 semesters. Courses can be four-, two- or one-week in length. Student employee insurance

If you have a domestic student that is working 30+ hours this summer for six weeks or more, they need to be offered health insurance. Please contact Sarah Goblirsch to receive the insurance form that must be presented and signed by the student (even if they wish to decline the insurance). Students have 30 days from when their hours increase to sign up for the insurance.

UNI Employee Well-being invites you to participate in the BYT Challenge where teams engage in a competition to track water consumption and physical activity in an attempt to advance on the leaderboard. Course dashboard, sometimes called notifications dashboard, is a convenient way to quickly view what's going on in your course. It can show what assignments need grading, what is new, important alerts and much more. If you don't see one in your course, you can always create a new one. Simply mouse over the plus sign (+) on the left navigation pane and select "Module Page." Give it an appropriate name (like "Course Dashboard") and then add the modules you want by clicking "Add Course Module." For more information, visit the official tutorial. Panther Pick Up

A number of charitable organizations will be on campus Thursday and Friday, May 4-5, accepting donations. Trucks will be stationed at four residence hall locations on Thursday and Friday afternoon.
