Dining locations closed July 3-4

Sidewalk closings: Begeman Hall and ITTC

Effective Wednesday, June 28, the sidewalk on the north side of Begeman Hall will be closed from the east end of the building to the East Bartlett Courtyard sidewalk on the west for storm sewer upgrades. The north entry of Begeman Hall will be closed except for emergency exiting. The sidewalk will be closed until the end of July. For more information, contact Facilities Planning at 273-2611.

Capstone presentations on vampires, zombies and cyborgs

Capstone projects on young adult novels will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, June 27 and 29, at the Hearst Center for the Arts. "Warm Bodies and Thirsty" will be presented Tuesday and "Being and Coldest Girl in a Cold Town" will be presented Thursday. Favorite refreshments of the undead will be served.

UNI will host Panther Pride Nights at the Waterloo Bucks and Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball games. The Bucks game will be at 6:35 p.m., Friday, July 14, at Riverfront Stadium. June is PTSD Awareness Month

PTSD Awareness Day is Tuesday, June 27. Military and Veteran Services and Student Disability Services will have a table from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Maucker Union. There will be handouts on PTSD, teal ribbons and information about how fireworks can be a trigger for veterans with PTSD.

Host families needed for students from South Korea

The Culture and Intensive English Program is looking for families to host students from South Korea Saturday and Sunday, July 1-2. Students can be picked up from campus at 9 a.m. Saturday and returned to campus at 3 p.m. Sunday. A stipend will be provided to cover the cost of meals. East Bartlett drainage project

Preliminary work on the area between Begeman Hall, East Bartlett and the ITTC to install storm drain inlet protection and mark out for utility locates will begin Wednesday, June 14. Sidewalks in this area will remain open during this phase but will be closed later in June. The sidewalk along the north end of East Bartlett will be closed June 19-30 for installation of a roof drain tile. The north entrance to East Bartlett will be closed, except for emergency exiting. Registration open for Fall Faculty Focus Learning Technology Workshops

IT-ETMS will host Fall Faculty Focus workshops Monday-Friday, Aug. 7-18. The one-hour workshops will address Bb Learn 9 features and other learning technologies. There also will be workshops addressing the technologies being installed in updated basic 110 classrooms. Seating is limited. Prairie Walk at Bennington Township Cemetery

A prairie walk at Bennington Township Cemetery will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 17. Bruce Stiles and Daryl Smith will lead participants through this “old settler” cemetery, a mesic prairie remnant with a wide variety of native plants. The cemetery is at the intersection of N. Elk Run Road and E. Mt. Vernon Road, next to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church (4110 E. Mt. Vernon Rd., Waterloo).

New "Release for Publication" privacy option in MyUNIverse

A new Release for Publication option allows students to opt in to publicized Dean's lists, graduation lists and announcements of other awards even if they choose to restrict release of their directory information to third parties for other purposes. Students can view their current settings, review available options and make any desired changes in MyUNIverse by accessing the Privacy tab of Update My Personal Information. Union Drive reconstruction

Beginning Wednesday, June 14, a portion of Union Drive between Maucker Union and Seerley Hall will be closed for reconstruction. Vehicle traffic to the Maucker Union dock and Maucker Union southeast entrance will not be available during construction. Union Drive is expected to be closed until Friday, July 7, depending on weather conditions. The north entrance door to Seerley Hall will serve as an emergency exit only during reconstruction. Grill out at Maucker Union

Join us each Friday through July 7 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a cookout! Dining Services will move operations from inside the food court to outside Maucker Union. They will serve a rotating menu of grilled favorites such as hamburgers, hot dogs and grilled chicken sandwiches, sides and beverages for purchase. Prairie Walk at Wolter's Prairie Preserve

The Cedar Prairie Group of the Sierra Club, the Iowa Prairie Network and Friends of the Tallgrass Prairie Center will host a prairie walk at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at Wolter's Prairie Preserve, Clarksville. Participants should meet at 9:30 am at the Thunder Ridge Mall parking lot to car pool/caravan. Wolter’s Prairie Preserve is a wet mesic prairie with a wide variety of native plants. Daryl Smith will talk about prairie and plant identification. For those who want to join the group at the prairie, it is located 1.5 miles southwest of Clarksville, just north of 195th Street at 19155 Quail Avenue.

The Culture and Intensive English Program will have a Host Family Day Saturday, June 10. Participants should pick up students at 10 a.m. and bring them back to campus by 8 p.m. New students will be from a variety of countries, including Colombia, Congo, Japan, Uzbekistan and others. No stipend is offered for this volunteer opportunity, but if eating out, students are expected to buy their own meals. Host families are needed for students attending a four-week program in June and a weekend event July 1-2. Email Sally Roos if you are interested in participating.
