Stay at home if you are sick

January through March are typically the prime months for cold and flu. A survey of 119 office workers showed that about a third said they always come to work sick. According to many experts, there may be no place worse than an office environment for containing germs. The take away: stay home if you are sick. A new policy is available for review before approval. 3.21 Undergraduate Student Academic Forgiveness Program Policy would provide an option to undergraduate students to seek one semester of forgiveness for past academic coursework after separation from the university for a minimum of four years. Run-off election voting

Gilchrist Hall has been designated as a polling location for the Tuesday, Dec. 5, run-off election. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Certain parking meters on the west side of Gilchrist Hall will be designated for voters only. Questions can be directed to Joe Tyler at 273-2712.

There is a run-off election for a Cedar Falls City Council at-large seat from 7 a.m. to  8 p.m. The candidates are Rob Green and Leann Saul.

UNI Red Cross Club blood drive

McElroy Fellowships

McElroy Fellowship candidates must intend to pursue a Ph.D. and be a Dec. 2017 or May 2018 graduate with a liberal arts degree. Awardees will receive $12,000 per year for three years to help defray education costs. In addition to an above-average academic record, students will be evaluated on their character, leadership and general interests. Potential applicants should contact Bryce Kanago to express interest and discuss eligibility. The UNI application deadline is Thursday, Feb. 15.

James Dietrich, geography, will facilitate a workshop about thesis and dissertation formatting from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 4, in 301 LIB. Discussion topics include setting up Zotero, a reference manager; leveraging Microsoft Word's built-in features, such as automatic table of contents generation, figure and table captioning, footnotes and in-text citations; and building your front matter, such as title pages, signatures pages, table of contents, and lists of tables and figures. Study Abroad mini fair

The Study Abroad Center will have a mini fair at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the ballroom, Campbell Hall, for students to learn about study abroad opportunities. Eighty percent of the programs offer courses in English. Programs vary in length: academic year, semester, summer (4-9 weeks) or faculty-led (2-4 weeks). Major, minor, LAC and elective credits abroad can transfer to UNI. Scholarships and financial aid are available. Past participants will be available to answer questions.

Koob Fund for Student Community Engagement

The Robert and Yvonne Koob Fund for Student Community Engagement is an endowment supporting students who are completing internships in positions of service in Iowa.
