New graduate student orientation

New graduate student orientation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, in Old Central Ballroom, MAU. The goal is to connect new graduate students to resources and services to support their success. The agenda includes the Campus Resource Fair and presentations on the Sexual Assault Prevention Online Program for graduate students, using Rod Library like a graduate student and university bill (u-bill) management.

Recreation Services fitness class pass

Group fitness classes will begin Monday, Aug. 29. Free classes will be offered Tuesday to Thursday, Aug. 23-25. Check out classes offered before registering for the fit class pass. Passes are $50 for the fall semester. Participants can choose from 36 classes and 72 sections offered each week. Visit the Recreation Services website for more information. Special registration will be offered from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 15-16, GIL. Payments can be made by payroll deduction; fall brochures will be available.

Dance Marathon Golf "Fore" the Kids

Dance Marathon will host an 18-hole partner best shot golf tournament at 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, Cedar Falls. Registration is $60 ($36 course fee, $24 donation).

What do I stand for? Who and what influenced my values?

UNI students will explore their answers to those questions and discuss how their priorities influence their financial decisions in a six-hour, non-credit course "Enhance Your College Experience." The first session will be Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 12 to 28. The second session will be Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 31 to Nov. 16. Both sessions will be in the Makerspace room, 286 LIB. The UNI Museum will host Rock the Stacks at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug 23. There will be a free concert featuring local legends Twins, Peas and Carrot, and Kitsch. The concert will kick off the latest exhibit "Ballroom Bash: Iowa's Rock 'n' Roll Legacy."

CatID passphrase reset requests no longer accepted via email

Protection of credentials used to access UNI resources is critical to the safety of your identity and the security of university data. Accordingly, CatID passphrase reset requests will no longer be processed via email. The preferred method to reset your CatID passphrase if you have forgotten it is the self-service option. Other acceptable alternatives include visiting the Service Desk, 36 ITTC, in person with your UNI or other government-issued photo ID or calling the Service Desk at 319-273-5555.

Abandoned bicycle roundup

The UNI Police Division collected a number of bicycles on June 8. If you think your bike might be among those collected, stop by 30 GIL or call UNI Police at 273-2712 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will need to provide the make, model, color, serial number and location where you last parked the bicycle. A $5 impoundment fee will be assessed for retrieval. Unclaimed bikes will be sold by the university during the fall semester.

UNI Dance Marathon partners with the Waterloo Bucks

Join UNI Dance Marathon at the Waterloo Bucks baseball game on Friday, July 29. Tickets are $8, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Dance Marathon. Purchase tickets online; the deadline to order is Wednesday, July 20.

West 31st Street construction closure

Effective Monday, June 6, West 31st Street at the intersection with Hudson Road, is closed due to construction activities related to the Southwest Campus Storm Water Management project. This construction closure will remain in place until Monday, Aug. 1. Through traffic on West 31st Street between Ohio Street and Hudson Road will not be available during the construction closure.

Library hours for Memorial Day holiday

Rod Library hours for the Memorial Day holiday are posted on the library website. Patrons can check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Library online resources are available 24/7; if off campus, you will get a prompt to enter your CatID.

CAC north plaza entrance closed

The Communication Arts Center north plaza entrance will be closed beginning Tuesday, May 10. The concrete sidewalk, paving, curb and gutter will be removed. Patrons should use the southeast entrance to the building. The work should be completed by fall 2016. For more information, call 273-4400.

GRE preparation courses

The Academic Learning Center will offer intensive preparation courses for GRE quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning and analytical writing from 9 to 10:15 a.m., Monday through Thursday, beginning Monday, May 16. Fall courses from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays will begin Tuesday, Aug. 30. Panther Pick Up

Panther Pick Up will be from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday, May 5, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, May 6. Trucks will be situated between Shull and Rider Halls, the northwest corner of Campbell Hall and near the Towers. Donate usable items such as running shoes, mattresses, furniture, books, clothing and more. Please consider donating your unwanted items to those in need in our community. Summer group fitness classes

Summer group fitness classes will begin Monday, May 9. The new price for the Fit Class Pass will be $25 to $30 for eight weeks of class. The online brochure will be available Friday, April 29; registration begins Monday, May 2. There are many classes to choose from, including cycle core, cycle blast, RIPPED, jazzercise, TRX, sculpt and tone, yoga synergy and Pilates.

Imagine Iowa

The presentation and unveiling of Imagine Iowa will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, in 301 LIB. Imagine Iowa is a fully developed website, created by students in the interactive digital studies practicum course, about Iowa’s rising emissions, harmful fossil fuel consumption, threats to Iowa’s landscape and how we can start to change it all. Phone scam targeting UNI students

ITS-Information Security has become aware of ongoing phone calls to UNI students purporting to be from law enforcement regarding unpaid UNI tuition. These calls are not legitimate. The scammer tells the victim that they will be subject to arrest if they do not make a payment immediately over the phone. UNI does not seek payments in this manner. Contact the UNI Police at 273-2712 if you have received a similar phone call.

Some locations will offer extended hours (such as Book Bistro) while other locations will have reduced operations or will be closed (such as Crunch Break). Interest meeting for Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity

Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity (ΚΑΨ), Inc. will have an informational meeting open to all interested men attending UNI at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 29, in the State College Room, MAU. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is a historically African-American collegiate social fraternity. It has chartered more than 400 undergraduate chapters in the continental United States and has more than 150,000 members worldwide.

UNI Veterans Association grill out

The UNIVA will host an inaugural grill-out/chill-out from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at Island Park, 760 Center St., Cedar Falls. Hamburgers and bratwursts will be served; attendees are asked to bring a side dish. There will be a bean bag tournament with UNIVA gear awarded to the winner. There will be other games and activities for a fun, family environment. All are welcome.

Iowa Public Radio will host an open house from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 28, in the Iowa Public Radio KUNI/KHKE studios on the third floor, CAC. Geocache for College Cash 2016

Rod Library will host GeoCache for College Cash, a Money Smart Week event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, April 25, in the east lobby. To play, students are invited to read seven posters on personal finance topics and answer seven quiz questions using their smart phones. Participants will compete statewide for a $1,000 scholarship. The posters will be available all week if you can't make the kickoff on April 25.
