"Dr. Seuss Wants You" and "Facing Prejudice"

The seventh annual collaboration begtween the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Educaiton and the Grout Museum District is bringing two exhibits to the Grout Museum of History and Science. "Dr. Seuss Wants You," highlighting the political cartoons of Dr. Seuss that warned Americans of the growing threat of Nazi Germany, and "Facing Prejudice," which encourages viewers to examine, in a constructive, non-threatening way, the complexities of prejudice and stereotypes that reside in all of us.

Ron Rinehart, educational psychology and foundations, will talk about developing techniques for examining students’ prior conceptions and look at the range of potential psychological responses to belief inconsistent information. Participants will engage with a flexible scaffold that strongly promotes evidence-based argumentation and can be used with a range of topics from the sciences to the humanities.

He will shares his experience with prairie strips and how 21st century farming is much more than maximizing production of corn and soybeans. The seminar is free and open to the public.

UNI Women's and Gender Studies and the Waterloo Riverview Center will host Take Back the Night to raise awarness for and work toward eliminating sexual violence in all forms. There will be speakers presenting and discussing information regarding sexual assault. The walk around campus will begin at approximately 8 p.m. In case of bad weather, the parade portion of the event will be canceled and the speaker portion will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Scholar Space of Rod Library.

View the night sky through the computer controlled telescope at the Earth and Environmental Science Observatory. This event is free and open to the public; meet before 9 p.m. to get to the observatory (near the polar bear).
